Catchment tours and talks
To raise
awareness about environmental issues affecting the inner city, we hold walking
or cycling tours through the area.
Cycle Tour around Perth CBD
during Bikeweek
Saturday 15th March 2008
2pm-5pm
Start from corner Plain Street
and Riverside Drive
Did you know that Perth
Railway Station used to be a lake?
And that Langley Park and the
Esplanade used to be in the river?
To find out how the river and
lakes impacted on the early history and design of our city and how changes have
affected the Swan River, join our members for an easy bicycle tour around Perth
city.
Starting with a ride along the
river foreshore, the tour includes the Narrows Interchange lakes, Perth Railway
Station, Claisebrook Cove and Point Fraser wetland.
All are welcome to join us on this free tour.
Bicycles can be hired from About Bike Hire 9221 2665.
Parking is available at 2 Plain St. Parking Fees apply (but the tour is free).
Much of the
cyclepath along the city foreshore is over land that used to be river. Formerly
the foreshore ran much closer to the city buildings which face Terrace Rd and
Point Fraser was a distinct promontory jutting out into the river. The map below
shows part of the route we will take on the cycle tour, marked on an 1897 map of
Perth. The changes to the foreshore have had significants impacts on the birds
of Perth water as well as the health of the river. Click
